Emerald Sparkle sat beneath a tree in the courtyard of the school, watching other unicorns go about their business and wondering what exactly would look best on them. This was her favorite game to play when she was bored and didn't have anything else to be doing. Spring time was always the best time for this sort of game since there were always so many ponies out and about on bright, sunny days like today, though Emerald had been sure that the pegasus weather team was supposed to give them rain on that day rather than sunshine. She couldn't help but laugh with a flick of her tail at the idea of a whole team of pegasus getting their job so completely wrong, she just couldn't believe how stupid pegasi could be.

Gingerly prancing across the surface of the clouds high up in the sky, Leafchaser wore a gentle smile and was as relaxed as she could be. "This is what it means to be a pegasus, this is what it means to live!" She grinned as wide as she could, before diving way down to the other bustling ponies, the wind catching her long, luxurious mane, making it flow like a river reaching for the heavens. Gently, she touched the tip of her hoof to the ground before happily settling herself on the ground. Even her crush, Storm Sentry, was hard at work ordering the other ponies to gather the clouds and haul them over to Canterlot Castle. Canterlot... Castle? "Canterlot Castle doesn't have rain yet?" Her heart broke in four pieces and seemed to sink deep into her hooves... "Tha-that was my job today... How could I forget??? And in front of Storm Sentry..."
It was a shock to her when he didn't yell at her like most of the other pegasi in charge. He simply gave her the sweetest smile ever and told her to go ahead with the others and start the rains again. Leafchaser knew she just loved how kind he was, and the butterflies in her stomach carried her farther, faster than even her own wings. She blushed furiously and giggled herself into a frenzy before she crashed into a tree, sending her spiraling down to the ground. Now she'd done it.. Her mane was a mess, and she had fallen in front of somepony else... She was still very dizzy when she sat up. ”Oh, hello… Ow…” she rubbed her head, ”Sorry.. but where am I?”

Emerald Sparkle was surprised when a young pegasus around her own age fell through the treetops and she couldn't help but laugh inwardly at how silly it was that this pegasus couldn't even seem to fly when that's all pegasi could do. "You are at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns."
She couldn't help but to feel a small bit of disdain towards the pegasus for ruining her wonderful afternoon of just sitting about and, since there was a pegasus around, the weather must be changing soon.
"What are you doing here anyway? I thought pegasi didn't like being so close to the ground?" she asked the yellow pony with a bit of a cool bite to her tone at the thought of her afternoon being so thoroughly ruined.

Leafchaser couldn't help but feel a dull jab in her chest and any butterflies she had fade at the unicorn's tone. She wanted nothing than to gallop away and hide, but upon looking around she couldn't help how enchanting the whole place was-Canterlot from an aerial view was much more boring than being completely immersed in it. The buildings were so intricate and colorful which molded their individual personalities, when from above they blurred together and the colors were much less vibrant. Granted she had just destroyed the ground where she landed and felt kinda bad about it, but she couldn't help but notice how perfect even the grass was! Every blade was perfect! "So this is the power of unicorns! This is incredible!" But she was answered by the cold bite of the pony with an emerald hide before her. Leafchaser couldn't help but be entranced by the glossy coat of even this monochromatic pony, even though she saw ponies with rainbows of every color, this pony had a flare all her own-something Leafchaser almost envied... If I had a gorgeous coat like that, I bet Storm Sentry'd notice me instantly! She brushed her shoulder to catch a disgusted glance at her now dirty, wind-blasted fur.
"Well, I uh... um... I'm Leaf... Leafchaser" She strained her shaky voice as far as she could to introduce herself. But she felt hollow and sweaty, and like she had just failed a test and yet she had even more to answer to. She gently swiped her mane from her eye and even though she quaked, continued, "And generally no... No we don't... usually like the ground... I kind of... um... Had no choice..." She blushed so hard she thought her cheeks would melt. "Well, umm what's your name?" She looked like she had been in a fight, she was exhausted from trying so hard to be social, dirty and scratched up from the crash-land, and she felt like her head was too heavy to hold above her chest. But she did it! She had successfully introduced herself.

Emerald couldn't believe the pony in front of her, who stood out when surrounded by the beauty of Canterlot. Emerald felt a little pride that the pegasus was marvelling at all of the power and beauty that the unicorns had to offer, even though a small twinge of her heart felt bad for the state that the pony was in. Emerald stood tall, her horn held high with pride like she had been taught from a young age, before she addressed the pegasus that was nervously before her. "I am Emerald Sparkle, daughter of Counselor Sapphire Gems and sister of the knight Onyx Shield."
Emerald would only ever admit to herself that she found the customary introductions very long and boring, but they were a necessity in Canterlot since it was absolutely vital for all unicorns to understand who it was they were talking to so they never were disrespectful. She would only admit to herself that she honestly couldn't care less what family another pony came from and just wanted to know ponies for who they were on their own.
She shook herself out of her thoughts and addressed the pegasus before her once more. "You are a mess. I mean, just look at your mane. It is very unsightly for any mare to be seen like you are, even if you are a pegasus."

Leafchaser couldn't help herself, she just stood and gawked at this apparently impressive unicorn before her. C-Counselor? Counselor's daughter? Knight? Knight??? I've stumbled across... Oh wow... Leafchaser just blushed and tried to pull herself together. She was in the presence of such a powerful, elegant, young filly and here she was disgusting and dirty. Even her heritage wasn't up to par-middle class and a rainbow making mother and a storm making father. She looked up and saw the rest of the pegasi she flew in with had already brought the cloud cover and left-left her behind! At this point though, Leafchaser wouldn't dare go back and let Storm Sentry see her like this...
It was a surprise when Emerald Sparkle commented on her dirty appearance, Leafchaser almost cried, but somehow she held herself together and although shaken, defended herself, "I'm of course.. not usually this dirty... I fell..." "fell" was barely audible, especially when she stepped back. She was pretty sure the unicorns wouldn't attack or arrest her for trespassing. She had heard stories of ponies being taken away by those with a lot of power and money-and it was obvious this unicorn had both. It was hard for her to focus anymore, more and more unicorn students began to stare at the obviously out of place pegasus. "I'm sorry for offending you..." Her voice was sing-song and soft like glass, even though it was thick with nervousness.

Emerald looked at the pegasus before her with curiosity for a moment as the yellow filly stumbled over her own nerves and a bit of Emerald couldn't help but warm up to the young pegasus. As she looked closer, Emerald also took note of how beautiful Leafchaser's mane actually was, streaked with the most interesting shades of green Emerald had ever seen in a pony's mane and at a length that Emerald couldn't help but to find unusual for their age. That seemed to be the deciding factor for Emerald as she turned slightly towards where the girl's dormitory was across the courtyard.
"Come with me. You can clean up in my room before you go back to whatever it was that you were doing," she said with a small laugh as she began to head towards her room, her head held high like she didn't have a pegasus in tow.

Leafchaser collapsed her front legs in the form of a bow. A unicorn? A unicorn with such a high status, inviting me...? Leafchaser was unsure of how the unicorns expected others to treat them, but she was trying to be as humble as possible. "I-I possibly couldn't intrude... Especially for such a-uh..." Emerald already began walking away, and even more unicorns began coming closer to Leafchaser. Quickly she gathered up her mane-flung a twig out of the mass- and trotted immediately after Emerald Sparkle.
Looking around at how big the complex, at least she figured, Emerald was taking her to her dorm and not to her official house. Canterlot was too big and with no pegasi so surely they had dorms. It was so weird and her heavy stomach felt like lead that began to poison and stiffen her legs. All these judgmental eyes... How did Emerald Sparkle not get in trouble? It would surely cause a scandal... or worse... Leafchaser's own family might get involved... Even further still, Leafchaser couldn't help but admire the unicorn's confidence and elegant trot that made Leafchaser's own dainty, weaker, feathery pegasus trot look ridiculous.

Emerald noticed Leafchaser trailing behind her and couldn't help but to laugh a little at that on the inside. She slowed her trot so that she was beside the pegasus and gave the other pony a sharp look. She didn't want to be harsh with the pegasus, but they were not going to make it to her room without some sort of trouble if the pegasus didn't keep up.
"They won't look at you if you show confidence that you are supposed to be here, pegasus or not," Emerald murmured to Leafchaser with her head still held high so it didn't seem like anything was wrong. Already, some ponies were turning their attention away from them, but not too many with only Emerald looking like she belonged here. "That is rule number one of Canterlot, act like you own the place and everyone will treat you like you do."

Leafchaser was surprised to see the unicorn match her own pace, at first she was flattered, but her faint smile faded with Emerald's tone, glare, and scolding. Leafchaser looked down at Emerald's prideful prancing, to try and match it as close as she could. She felt odd, the jostling from the sharp, eloquent movements of her new trot was a throbbing, sharp reminder of how different a pesasus' gentle loping gait was proof of their differences. Even weirder still was Leafchaser was holding her head up high! Her! Leafchaser, the filly who never had the confidence to do so, in this unfamiliar place with all these unfamiliar faces, she was holding her nose towards the sun-even more so, dead-center, unicorn territory.
This eerie thought sent a chill down Leafchaser's spine, but she knew she had to keep the facade up or she'd be in deep trouble. First she was late, then she failed her mission, and now she was trespassing in the place counselors send their foals to school! Oh dear... Wait... "Trot like you own the place? And other ponies think you do? That doesn't sound safe at all!" Leafchaser couldn't believe her realization.

Emerald's smooth trot nearly faltered for a moment when she heard Leafchaser's question, quite startled by the sudden questioning of a concept she had been taught her whole life. Of course a pegasus would question a unicorn in unicorn territory! She gave Leafchaser a sidelong glance as she continued to trot through the courtyard, noticing more and more ponies turning their away from the two. "How is it not safe?"
The two were nearing the intricate doors that opened up to the girl's dormitory, where Emerald lived in her own suite near the top due to her mother's status as an alumni and her father's status a board member.

"How's it not safe? Well... For instance... Umm... look at me!" After she said that, a group of ponies looked her way which made he continue, but only in a whisper, "I don't belong here, imagine if I was a bad pony! I'm not... but I... I could foalnap you! She began to blush harder as they passed questioning unicorns eyes. She was indeed out of place. It was even harder to believe she could just walk in here, even the doors were intricate and laced with gems and fancy carvings. Leafchaser broke her prance just to stare down the doors as they gradually shut behind them. Emerald hissed for her to hurry up, and quickly they sneaked their way almost to the top of the suites. It was beyond... glamorous! The pegasus only have clouds for walls, very rarely did they see so many shinies and intricate artwork woven into the walls. Leafchaser was stupefied when Emerald Sparkle quickly gained access to her home. Leafchaser didn't even have a key, she had to wait for her mother to come home and open the door for them.

"It helps that you are a foal yourself I guess," Emerald said thoughtfully as she magically opened her doors until they were in her large living quarters. Emerald did not pause as she passed through the piles of fabrics, plush pillows, gems, and even a golden sewing machine tucked into a corner behind piles and piles of books. Her room was incredibly organized for having so many things in it and had so much detail in even the smallest of pieces of furnishings. She paused by one door and opened it with her magic, allowing the scent of sweet flowers to waft into the main room. "You may take a bath in here if you wish. You are free to use whichever soaps and whatnot that you wish. My only advice is to not mix scents, which are labelled by different colored bottles."
Emerald crossed the room once more to sit at one of the many tables in the room, this one having scrolls of paper on it with a few quills. "Take your time and relax. Pegasi don't normally come to the school, so you stood out quite a bit, but you should be fine here."

Leafchaser relaxed now that they were finally inside Emerald Sparkle's... Palace? This has to be a palace... Leafchaser almost started drooling as she took in every single sight, sound, and smell that wafted her way. She uncoordinately tried to walk but only tripped onto the floor. "How.... wow... How are you so wealthy? This is incredible! I'm so... out of place!" She grinned as large as she could while gaping and still not paying attention, began walking and tripping over her own hooves on the way to the bathroom, which looked like a a fancy spa she and her mother often frequented, but even more fancy-and this was a bathroom!
Leafchaser gently touched the water with her hoof, letting the water slowly fill every crevice before plunging herself all the way in, her wings guiding her in slowly. Almost instantly the pain faded away, and upon looking through all the bottles, she chose a lovely green one to match her mane. It smelled of... crisp cucumbers and lily flowers! Leafchaser stayed in the bath, probably a little longer than she should have, but the water was so welcoming, and the steam cleaned out her pores. Finally, she combed out her long, wavy, teal, emerald and forest green mane. But how wet she still was bothered her so she shimmied and shook out any remaining water.
She entered the room as asked Emerald Sparkle if she could go outside for a moment and fly around to dry off, even as she tripped over her hair which was longer and dried out. Finding a balcony wasn't difficult, and she took her launch, wings giving one powerful flap for liftoff. It was long before she rocketed through the sky, feeling the wind blow-dry her mane and coat as she dipped and dove-it wasn't long before she returned to her launching balcony, her glossy coat now shimmering and the cool bite of the scent of cucumbers in her nose. Her mane regained it's gentle flow and natural shine, but now it was somehow even more radiant-must've been the shampoo? Oh! I really must thank Emerald!
Trotting back to her friend, she bowed low before landing her own shamrock colored eyes into Emerald's sapphire ones. "Thank you! I feel so much better, and cleaner! Maybe now we won't get as many odd looks as before!" she even let out a giggle unintentionally.

When Leafchaser returned to her room, Emerald's eyes widened and the quill that she had been magically floating dropped back onto the table. Her mind immediately began to come up with so many designs that would fit how pretty Leafchaser actually was. She couldn't really figure out to make something around her wings, but she didn't really have experience coming up with things for anypony but unicorns.
"Stay still," Emerald gasped as she stood and began to grab fabrics and things with magic so that she could bring them up to Leafchaser to compare to her natural color palette. Fabrics and flowers and various gems floated in and out of the things surrounding Leafchaser for comparison.

Legs feeling light and tingly, wings a little tired, and heart in the clouds, Leafchaser’s cheeks burned with the adrenaline from her post-bath flight. But she was shocked when several gems and fabrics engulfed in a sparkling emerald cloud began dancing around her in a pattern she couldn’t detect. Her knees began shaking and she cried out for it to stop, her voice still melodic and sing-song.
”Emerald Sparkle, what are you doing…?”
Tears threatened to pool at the corners of her eyes and the fetlock around her hoof began sweating, and her eyes were wide with caution. This unknown pony began throwing things at her, how else should she feel? But she also glanced at the clock, realizing it was past lunchtime and no one had tried to find her, and her stomach began growling.

"Oh, I am so sorry," Emerald apologized quickly as she placed all of the objects back in their proper places around her room before turning back to Leafy with an embarrassed smile. "I do tend to get carried away when my mind comes up with a new design and your mane is so unique, my mind was going haywire with possibilities."
She let out a nervous laugh before she heard the Pegasus' stomach growl, signalling that they were in the need of food. She crossed the room to one of the doors near the bathroom and opened the door.
"What would you like for lunch? I can make some things or, if you want something else, I can always order down to the cafeteria for delivery," Emerald asked her curiously, unsure of what it was that Pegasi liked to eat.

’Oh, it appears I have upset this filly.’ Leafchaser blushed. ’How could I have been so rude. Mother would be so disappointed…’ she desperately wanted to leave after her mistake, but was too hungry to decline any offer of food.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I was just so confused. Please forgive me.” She too, let out a nervous chuckle. “Oh, lunch sounds lovely. Do you happen to have cloud rolls here? They are my most favorite” She let out a very big grin, at least for her. However, she quickly remembered that might just be a Pegasus thing… perhaps unicorns had their own cuisine… she wasn’t quite sure. "Perhaps you have a cafe around here? Although... I imagine... a.. mumble...mumble..." as her thoughts carried away the sentence, her real voice faded, 'a pegasus and a unicorn together might seem odd...'
