The history within this Equestria is greatly the same as the Equestria known in the shows, but there was an important turning point in history that makes things vastly different from the way we all know them.
Celestia and Luna, as far as we are aware, ruled together from their castle in the Everfree Forest for many years, growing and expanding Equestria like the Alicorns before them and bringing about a time of peace after the rule of Discord. The two were able to form many cities across Equestria and bring the three races together for ore than their most basic needs.
The point the two histories diverge from one another is during the battle Celestia had with Nightmare Moon. During this battle, Celestia had no choice but to destroy her very own sister with no hopes of the pony becoming who she had once been after the darkness took hold of her so strongly. With her sister gone, Celestia used the last of her power, the very last bit of power that was even keeping her tied to this world, to seal away the darkness that had taken over her beloved sister. With the darkness sealed away forever and her sister lost to this world, Celestia's life also faded from existence in the ruin of her old home.
Without their leader, Equestria was forced to grow and develop without Alicorns and a mild rift began to form between the ponies that lived in Equestria since there was no longer anypony there to fight for equal rights amongst the ponies. While they did work together like Celestia and Luna had organized, Unicorns tended to stay in the newly formed Canterlot so as to practice their magic safely and run Equestria to the best of their ability. Pegasi tended to stay in Cloudsdale or Las Pegasus whenever they were not on their missions to go fix the weather around Equestria, while the Earth ponies spread out in small villages all over Equestria in hopes of growing enough food to supply the growing kingdom. A shaky peace came over Equestria during this time that made it possible for them to all work together, but with mild distaste for other types of ponies.
When the Princess Cadence became an Alicorn, a new hope for Equestria was born along with her new abilities. She did the best she could in the position she was placed in, but failed to learn enough to keep all three types happy with one another, especially since she had grown up with the Pegasi and had learned their ways and the woes that they believed they had. This bias made it hard for the young princess to make even and fair decisions for all ponies that were now under her rule, leading to a lot of hatred to brew within those who had to suffer for the rights the Pegasi received in exchange. It was not until she began to live with the unicorns of Canterlot that Princess Cadence began to understand the problems of other races and began to fix the imbalance that she had created, though it still did not fix the hatred that had formed between the races. When the Crystal Empire came back to this world, she and her newlywed husband, Shining Armor, sealed themselves away in a crystal encasing that allowed for their love to permanently power the Crystal Heart and ward off the evil that was threatening the Crystal Empire.
With their only princess gone, Equestria once again was forced to try to do what it could to continue on until a new Alicorn could be born to lead them once again. With hatred brewing between the races and new threats forming all over Equestria, the world is bleak for the new fillies that are born into this world waiting for some light to pull it out of the shadows.
