Moonshine wandered through the courtyard, her nose burrowed into a book of spells and incantations. Being the weekend classes were on hold, meaning she had little to do but occupy her own thoughts and time with whatever struck her fancy. Of course it was magic that struck her fancy, it was always magic which struck her fancy.
A shimmering hue of aquamarine hovered about her horn as an aura of her magical ability's physical form, the same sparkling hue encased the book she was currently reading along with a smoothie she had bought from one of the many vendors that were located around the school's campus. Perhaps it was a bit odd to see such a young filly out walking by herself - Didn't ponies her age usually travel in groups? - but that was how she lied to spend her time: alone. Solitude didn't bother her, in fact, she found it quite enjoyable when there was no one to bother her, or distract her from her studies.
The young filly found a bench in a secluded part of the courtyard's gardens and took a seat; sipping from her smoothie, and reading her book with absorbed interest.

Clouddapple snorted, grumbling and mumbling about the letter he received from his father. He had expected praise from the unicorn he inherited his magical prowess from, but instead he received a letter saying ”That’s not the way to make friends ‘Dapple. It’s not what you know or how skilled you are, but who you know and good relationships that get you far in this world.” He huffed irritably and couldn’t believe such a ridiculous reply. Yeah, his “friends” exiled him based off his wife choice, how’d that work out for him?
He trotted briskly through the courtyard, anxious to return home for the evening, but instead noticed a pony, quite out of place. He had seen her in class before, but her coat was odd like his own. It was most commonly an earth pony trait, just like his dapple effect being a near Pegasus exclusive. It wasn’t impossible, but highly unusual for unicorns to have those markings without mixed heritage. Perhaps she was like him? He had no idea, but he could feel his nostrils flare and in an irritated tone-he mocked her,
“Gee, you must be so proud of your filthy earth-pony heritage.” He growled. But why? ”Why did I do that? That’s not me… that was really rude of me, or at the very least meaner than I meant for it to sound.” But something about this filly rubbed him the wrong way… was it because, they could be similar? Several memories flooded him in that instant which felt like forever, memories of other ponies taunting and teasing him… had he really just inflicted that pain on somepony else?

Moonshine had been quite content with spending the entire day relaxed and lounging upon the courtyard bench with nothing but her book for company. She ravenously turned page after page, unable to sate her desperate need to learn more and more. A minute turned to five. Five minutes turned to thirty. Thirty minutes turned to an hour, and the time trickled by much in the way the words slipped by on the page. Absorbed and invested in her studies, the filly might not have noticed the passing by of another pony. Most likely, the other unicorn's presence would have gone without even a moment of acknowledgment. However, his voice summoned her from her sheltered bubble of knowledge, and unkindly.
“Gee, you must be so proud of your filthy earth-pony heritage.” His voice was a sneer of derision, the mocking volume of his tone unmistakable, but she couldn't understand what he meant. Her parents were well respected members of the unicorn ponies, with well developed powers in their respective fields. Her father could wield weaponry with ease, while her mother created beautiful and fashion forward outfits for ponies all across Equestria. Even her siblings were unicorns, and her powers were quickly making themselves known. Surely this colt was confused, but Moonshine had no words to accuse him of this. In truth, she had no words for him at all, her tongue caught fast between her cheeks in shocked insecurity.
No one could ever call Moonshine a pony of confrontation, and when arguments were started in class she could often be found taking shelter between the pages of the nearest book. However, this colt was certainly looking for some sort of a rise out of her... For a moment, the young filly thought through her options. On one hoof she could scream and rage in a manner quite unlike herself and tell him just how wrong he was, or...she could show him. The filly's smoothie cup - now filled with lukewarm liquid that had been forgotten in her voracious studying - shimmered in the aquamarine veil of her magic's visible form, the lid detaching from the mouth of the container before the cup itself came to float above the colt's head. Without uttering a word as of yet, Moonshine would tip the contents of her forgotten beverage upon the colt's head unless he moved out from under the sticky spill. Once the half drank beverage would find its rest upon either the colt's head or the courtyard ground, Moonshine would offer her retort. "Could an earth pony do that?" The filly countered, the words felt strange on her tongue. It was odd to stand up for herself, usually Assyrian would protect her or her mother would usher her away from insult. To be her own savior felt...wrong.
It wasn't a matter of fighting back that perplexed her, nor was it some innate urge to "do good." Rather, it was the mere act of involving herself in someone else's ploys to cause pain which irritated her and struck her character off guard. She felt dirty, and bothered, and frustrated. She wanted this colt to go away, to leave her with her book that would right her once more. She wanted him gone, the hypocrite who claimed her heritage was stained due to her coat when his was just as much an oddity as hers. Of course this point would not carry from her lips, and instead, Moonshine watched the other young pony for his reaction to her little demonstration.
